Pine + Clover Apothecary

Facial Steam Cake: Calm + Soothe

An invitation to bring you home to yourself, these facial steam cakes will encourage you to breathe and be. As the moist heat hydrates the skin, boosts circulation, and opens pores for further facial treatment, it also serves as an incredible vessel for the delivery of nourishment, repair, and balance from plant allies of calendula, marshmallow, nettle, and rose petals.

The best part about these facial cakes? Honoring an inside-outside approach to herbal skincare, the herbs included are completely edible and target skin imbalances both externally and internally. So feel free to strain your steam bowl and pour into a cup for further enjoyment: a honey-sweetened herbal tea is all ready for you for additional skin support from the inside, out.

1 facial cake in a biodegradable vegetable cellulose bag

All organic: calendula, marshmallow root, nettle, rose petals, raw local honey, rosebud

We suggest using a facial cake for an extra special at-home nature facial: on a make-up free, freshly rinsed or cleansed face, steam your skin for 3-5 minutes for best results. Simply air-dry your skin afterward, or opt for applying facial oil while skin is still damp, or move on to other treatments such as a face mask — no need to rinse or cleanse again.

Founded in 2020 by herbalist and lifelong student of the outdoors Britt Gillman, Pine + Clover Apothecary is a line of bioregional + wildcrafted whole plant goodness rooted in the rhythm of the seasons. Britt believes that adopting the rhythm of nature connects us with an ancestral support network: the plants. This is reconnection and remembrance: finding solace in the outdoors and comfort in the woods.

Britt is trained as a photographer, maternal support practitioners, copywriter, and bioregional herbalist. She has, over the years, unintentionally carved out an everyday way to practice what feels like homecoming: photographing, writing about, gathering, and crafting with plants. Her family of four lives in a small beach town facing the Quebec Laurentian Mountains and they grow all the Pine + Clover herbs in their gardens and forage the rest from wild spaces.

Britt approaches herbalism in a reciprocal way: acknowledging that plants are gifts we must appreciate, tend to, and find ways to give thanks for. She lives in deep communion with the land, and every time she infuses the tender sweetness of red clover into hot water, or grasps a handful of white pine needles to marry with oil, she is coming home…weaving herself into the thread of ancestral remembrance and synchronous connection with the land.
