Founded in 2014 by farmer, educator, herbal creator, and writer Rachel Carpenter, Good Flower Farm is the manifestation of her passion for holistic living and love for the earth. These passions have sent her on a journey to pursue and understand this connection through years of work on organic farms, teaching environment and sustainability education at a high school, and studying herbalism and nutrition.
Rachel started Good Flower Farm out of an apartment in Minneapolis while working full-time. Years later, she found roots on her first farm property just outside her hometown of Nashville, where she tended a farm organically with her husband for five years (from 2017-2022). Losing her mother and giving birth to her first child in 2021 led to much reflection and, ultimately, the decision to relocate and fulfill a long-time dream of living near Lake Superior: where summers are milder, cross-country skiing is abundant, and there is a lovely micro-climate for growing.
Summer of 2022 found her family, and thus Good Flower Farm, relocating to Wisconsin, where she tends a smaller backyard farm that’s beautifully suited to the intensive, small-scale herb-growing needed for Good Flower Farm formulations. Since 2018, Rachel has grown the organic herbs she uses in her creations. And all the oils, butters, beeswax, and essential oils are sourced as locally, organically, and potently as possible. Sustainability and reciprocity with the land are at the forefront of all of Rachel’s decisions, from organic growing practices, to composting, solar energy, and biodegradable packaging.
