Low-Oxalate Greens Powder
Oxalates are simple molecules found in the leaves of many plants. For some who are susceptible, when excessive amounts of oxalates are ingested, the oxalates bind with calcium in the blood and cause both damaging inflammation and precipitation in the form of kidney stones. Lowering the oxalate intake in the diet is a way to prevent stone formation, reduce systemic inflammation and, in general, achieve better health. After researching the oxalate content of various greens, three emerged as the most tasty and nutritious while being significantly lower in oxalates than others. The locally-sourced, organic lacinato kale, collard greens, and mustard leaves in this blend will give you the health benefits from the regular consumption of green vegetables while reducing your oxalate exposure.

Originating as an idea at a family vacation in Cape Cod in July 2015, Dr. Cowan’s Garden is a true family-owned-and-run business. With over 40 years of studying food and nutrition and working with patients, Dr. Tom Cowan is a longtime holistic physician living and practicing in San Francisco who specializes in helping people heal through diet and natural medicines. His book How (and Why) to Eat More Vegetables describes why eating small amounts of a wide variety of vegetables is key to optimal health, and he is a passionate and knowledgeable grower of vegetables. He does, indeed, plant and tend many of the vegetables that are turned into these powders. Dr. Cowan believes that, taking our lead from healthy traditional peoples, we should strive to eat at least 10 to 12 different plants a day to avail ourselves of all the concentrated vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals that plants have to offer – and Dr. Cowan’s Garden powders help us achieve this plant diversity with ease and accessibility on a daily basis.
Sourcing vegetables from their own organic garden, as well as directly from organic and biodynamic farmers in New York, Pennsylvania, and California, Dr. Cowan’s Garden powders are as nutrient-dense as they are efficacious. All vegetables are gently and intentionally dehydrated (some steamed beforehand) before being turned into powdered form; and all powders are created in-house in Dr. Cowan’s Garden California studio.
