DETOX MASK: Purifying Relief
The Detox Mask strikes the perfect balance between effectively drawing out impurities with clarifying clays, hydrating and nourishing with roots, and soothing with anti-inflammatory herbs and flowers. The end result is skin that looks clearer with visibly smaller pores and a reduction in the appearance of redness and breakouts.
French green clay is a powerful detox for congested skin. This mask balances that power with soothing plants like calming chamomile and mucilaginous + hydrating marshmallow. Many of the whole plant constituents in these plants are focused on soothing hydration in order to help balance the skin through an effortless detox; a few of those constituents are B vitamins, betaine, polysaccharides, azulene, and salicylic acid*. This mask can be used all over the skin, or for ‘face mapping’ which is when you target specific areas of congestion or apply to breakouts directly. Additional plants in this formula to love are locally cultivated passionflower and lavender, which are cooling plants, making the Detox Mask ideal for those who experience red, irritated, or swollen acne.
*Not to be confused with the negative side effects of isolated lab-made salicylic – this is within the context of the delicate healing passionflower plant.
Containing 15 beneficial active ingredients and 100% whole plant organic, this mask is a beautiful choice for oily / acneic / congested skin.
French Green Clay – This powerful clay is drawing and detoxifying, and instantly reduces the appearance of pores. It also happens to be rich in nourishment and helps to encourage cell turnover. It can be too drying for some skin types, which is why we recommend always keeping your mask hydrated for the best possible results. If mask is kept hydrated throughout the treatment, then this purifying treatment is suitable for most skin types.
Lavender – Laurel Skin’s Biodynamic® lavender flowers and essential oil are cultivated locally near their studio. They are anti-inflammatory, calming, and cooling to the skin. They promote healthy cell functioning, and have a balancing action on oil production.
Passionflower – This soothing beautiful flower and vine is farmed locally just for Laurel. It gently promotes detoxification and clarity, and its astringent action is healing to skin irritations and redness.
Dulse Seaweed – The ‘no seaweed for acne’ myth has long been debunked. Laurel’s organically farmed nutritive dulse actually helps to detoxify, while providing skin with optimal nourishment and antioxidant activity.
Burdock + Dandelion – These nutrient dense roots are excellent food or prebiotics for our microbiome. They are also high in B vitamins and saccharides and are very hydrating. They also assist in detoxing by carrying away impurities and cellular waste.
Chamomile – This product features chamomile in three ways to provide ultimate cooling soothing relief for reactive, red, inflamed, or acneic skin. It is a true skin game-changer ingredient, and is as powerful and strong as it is delicate and gentle. It is present as German and Roman chamomile essential oil, as well as Laurel Skin’s artisan hand-harvested whole flowers.
Marshmallow – Marshmallow is a root to love. Its mucilaginous hydrating properties put hyaluronic acid to shame. It deeply hydrates, soothes, and visibly plumps the skin. It contains standout constituents like betaine, B vitamins, quercetin, ferulic acid, and polysaccharides. This plant has an affinity for water friendly tissue like fascia, and can help with stagnation in those connective tissues.

Apply 1 teaspoon or less of Detox Mask to mask bowl, and trickle a bit of water in with your fingertips to preferred consistency. Mix with a brush into a slightly runny paste and allow to steep like tea for a few minutes. Allowing the mask to steep will cause it to thicken and will further activate ingredients. Once ready to apply, moisten face and hands. Apply gently to face and neck with fingertips or preferably a mask brush. Leave on for 10-30 minutes, then rinse. Keep mask hydrated to keep mask active and to prevent drying on the skin. The longer the mask is left on the more frequently it will need to be rehydrated to stay active. Re-hydrate it with a brush, fingertips, or a mister bottle of water.
Use within 12 months of opening and within 24 months of manufacture date on the bottom of the jar. Keep jar dry to prevent spoilage.
“I believe love is the most powerful healing tool available.” -Laurel Shaffer, Laurel Skin founder + skin-specific herbalist
Founded by skin-specific herbalist + plant communicator + engine of love Laurel Shaffer and located in a beautiful renovated barn in Petaluma, California, Laurel Skin is the culmination of Laurel’s winding journey filled with education, research, and extensive study that led to her path as a sommelier, and eventually skin-specific herbalist. Those formal training paths, as well as her experience in farm, spa, and mindful wellness, have made it possible for her to live the life of a slow beauty advocate and creator of farm-based and hyper-localized spa rituals and formulas. She walks a balance beam with one side in wonderment and appreciation of phytochemistry and the other a world of intuitive trust and respect for whole plant wisdom and ancient traditions. That balance allows her to create formulas of long-standing efficacy.
The Laurel Skin line is a ritualistic range of flower and herb-based skincare, formulated with impeccably sourced, highly vibrant whole plants picked at their peak for unmatched transparency, purity, and results. Firmly rooted in the principles and practices of slow beauty, Laurel’s first and most critical relationship is with the land. Her exclusive partnerships with local artisan farmers ensure the highest quality and most stringent transparency. Their mutual commitment to only 100% organic, raw, unrefined plant materials guarantees unparalleled freshness and efficacy. Laurel Skin believes beauty should be a loving self-care practice that begins and ends with mindfulness.
Leading the way with unparalleled sourcing, a commitment to farmers, and a mission built on transparency, the Laurel Skin line captures California’s hearty terrain and natural abundance in each and every bottle, and relies on their own manufacturing and production capabilities to ensure the freshest, most efficacious products are produced.
Every single whole plant they work with is certified organic or certified Biodynamic®, and they make no exceptions. Laurel Skin partners with artisan farms within 100 miles of their Lab to source all of the flowers and herbs that can grow in their California climate. They begin working with their partnering farms in the Winter during seeding and continue through to harvesting season when each plant is picked at their peak of vitality. Once the plants are harvested, they make their way to the Laurel Skin Lab where they are turned into plant medicine for the skin. Of course, each plant is processed as little as possible to maintain the freshness, purity, and vitality of each plant. Laurel extracts are made in-house, without the use of chemicals, to preserve the integrity and efficacy of the whole plant. All oils used in Laurel Skin creations are certified organic or Biodynamic®, raw, cold pressed, unrefined, and pressed fresh for Laurel by the farms that grow them or by artisan pressers. Their oils are richly hued and have an unmistakably fresh smell: indicators that they are pure and unrefined. Laurel uses only certified organic and Biodynamic® essential oils; many of which are distilled in incredibly small batches just for the Laurel line. Every hydrosol they use is certified organic or Biodynamic® and made exclusively for Laurel Skin by their artisan partnering farmers along the west coast.
Laurel Skin is committed to your health, well-being and, as a result, your beauty. Their commitment begins with the quality of the soil that nourishes and optimizes the ingredients they select. This is the foundation of slow beauty. The Laurel team then follows each ingredient from seed to harvest. Through the season it takes to grow their plants, to the months their handmade blends sit steeping, to the hours they spend bottling each batch, the Laurel Skin team practices slow beauty with patience and intention. Their greatest reward is knowing you feel this when you use their products.
