Live Botanical

The Intention

An essential oil-free, nutrient-dense, versatile facial oil that deeply nourishes and restores vitality using herbs grown exclusively from the Live Botanical micro-garden. Harvested at peak times for the optimal plant vitality…infused on the full moon, followed by new moon preparations…weaving intention into every step, promoting a deep connection to the natural world that can be felt with every use.

With 12 vibrant herbs and oils that are selected for their complex antioxidant and vitamin profiles that encourage skin rejuvenation and vitality, Herb Garden brings forth plant medicine in its most radiant, bioavailable form.

Cranberry seed oil – one of the most abundant sources of polyphenols such as tocopherols and tocotrienols (vitamin E) – helps to improve firmness and elasticity. Raspberry seed is rich in carotenoids and vitamin E, and its antioxidant profile is especially effective at calming reactive, sun parched, and inflamed conditions. Pumpkin seed oil helps to clear skin with its balance of omega 3 and 6 fatty acids to provide potent moisture without buildup, while also infusing skin with zinc, selenium, and vitamins A and E to support collagen levels, provide environmental protection, rejuvenate skin, reduce scarring, and improve texture. Hemp seed oil is one of the most nutritionally rich oils that’s known to calm irritated skin and improve moisture levels. Colorful meadowfoam seed oil resembles human sebum, making it an effective, natural barrier to lock in moisture and deliver nutrients deep into the epidermis.

Calendula flower – an all-time favorite skincare herb – protects skin from free radicals, reduces inflammation, and increases circulation to encourage regenerative actions for healthy skin. Yarrow flower and leaf is cooling yet stimulating, helping to repair the skin to reduce redness and increase cellular renewal to lighten scarring and soften fine lines. Lemon balm leaf is a joyfully scented plant that’s rich in antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties, and helps to create a healthy environment for the skin from head to toe. Lemon verbena flower and leaf prevents oxidative damage and help to repair and protect. Lavender flower is a cleansing herb that calms the skin and helps with common irritations that can cause redness and discomfort.

The Ritual

As a face oil: apply 1-2 pumps on cleansed and toned skin. Using with an Elixir or Hyaluronic Acid Serum will provide improved hydration.

As a cleansing oil: massage 3 - 4 pumps on dry skin, taking time to dissolve makeup and dirt from the day. Take a warm, soft washcloth and wipe the face until oil is removed.

As a body moisturizer + massage oil: massage all over as needed. Absorbs best when applied after a shower.

As a scalp treatment : for those who have dry scalp or dandruff. On dry hair and scalp, pump enough product to coat scalp. Let sit for 30-60 minutes and shampoo to remove.

As a hair oil: before styling, apply a small amount of oil to hair to prevent heat damage and control fly-aways.

As a salve for minor scrapes + burns: apply a small amount to cleansed wound a couple of times a day to prevent scarring and lessen the discomfort caused by inflammation.

A good option for those who are pregnant as there are no essential oils and the herbs are supportive of a range of skin changes that tend to occur.

The Live Botanical Story

Founded by deeply-studied and wealth-of-knowledge herbalist Carolyn McRory in 2016, Live Botanical started its journey as a dream that formed over 20 years ago. The heart of Live Botanical is the intense desire to connect more with Mother Nature and share her beauty and wisdom with others; and Carolyn believes the path to a more sustainable society is to encourage ideas of conservation through compassion: we must see ourselves in nature and nature within ourselves to change mindsets. Through herbal-based skincare, Carolyn is able to tell a story to help forge a relationship with the many wonders of the natural world. With vivid botanical imagery and products designed for personal care, she hopes we are reminded every day of the beauty in the world and, more importantly, the beauty that lives within each of us.

Live Botanical’s philosophy is based upon four guiding principles: to live beautiful, to live fresh, to live responsible, and to live simple.

To Live Beautiful - Formulas are rooted in creating balance and harmony, and to enhance what makes each of us unique because they believe that loving who we are at this moment and following our intuition is where beauty begins.

To Live Fresh – Whole plant infusions, botanical extracts, unrefined oils, waxes, and butters are at the core of every product. Infusions and extracts are created in-house in their Portland, Oregon studio. And they start with locally- and regionally-sourced fresh herbs from small farms or their own micro-garden that they dry in house (instead of purchasing pre-dried herbs) as much as possible to ensure the potency and quality meets their high standards. They also source with an idea of using abundant herbs to limit their impact on the earth.

To Live Responsible - Both environmental and social responsibility are value statements they hold dear in every decision made. Sourcing follows strict guidelines, and ingredients not obtained regionally are fair-trade certified (when applicable). They work with farmers and producers who follow organic guidelines or ethical wildharvesting using rules outlined by United Plant Savers. Oils, butters, and waxes must be GMO free and unrefined or minimally refined depending on formulation requirements. Preservatives and lab-based ingredients are researched extensively for environmental impact and personal safety. They also actively give back to organizations who honor environmental stewardship and who work to uplift marginalized communities relating to equality and justice.

To Live Simple - They embrace the art of slow living by taking time to connect more with plants and customers to impart feelings of love, patience, and acceptance. Products are crafted to bridge current knowledge and traditional wisdom into every formula. They consider themselves anti-capitalists. This means they remain purposefully small with extremely low overhead to ensure products are affordable and markups are as low as possible. Their goals are based in the love of nature and helping others connect to the outside world.
